Perinatal mental health
Specialized support for pregnancy, postpartum, loss, and the broader transition into parenthood.
What it is
The perinatal period — pregnancy, postpartum, and the months that follow — can bring significant emotional challenges alongside the physical and life changes. Many parents experience symptoms that go beyond the typical adjustment, including persistent low mood, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or difficulty connecting with their baby.
Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are common and treatable. They can affect birthing parents, partners, and people navigating pregnancy loss or fertility challenges. Symptoms sometimes look different from typical depression or anxiety, which is one reason specialized training matters in this area.
Our PMH-Certified counselors hold the Perinatal Mental Health certification, which involves specific training in the patterns, treatment approaches, and considerations unique to this period. This includes work with postpartum depression and anxiety, postpartum OCD, birth trauma, perinatal loss, and the adjustment to parenthood more broadly.
Sessions are available in-person and via telehealth, which many parents find more accessible during pregnancy and the early postpartum months. Babies are welcome in sessions. There's no requirement to wait until things feel severe — many clients reach out proactively during pregnancy or in the first weeks postpartum.
